The 4th Station: Jesus meets His Mother.
The death of a child before that of the parents is contradictory to the natural order of life.
In a special way, Mary represents every parent who is grieving the loss of their child. Also, Jesus represents every child who has died prematurely.
Sometimes in thinking about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, we can forget about the hardship and adversity that they endured as a family. The Passion narratives do not mention Joseph and he had likely died prior. Therefore, Mary had lost her husband and in the 4th Station, she meets her Son who is approaching His death by crucifixion.
Mary understands the pain and grief felt when a loved one dies. She understands the suffering. Mary gets it.
“We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you; because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.”
